About the Charles H. Houston Pre-Law Program

The mission of the Charles H. Houston Pre-Law Program is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with continuous support throughout the law school admissions process and journey to the Juris Doctor degree.

The Charles H. Houston Pre-Law Program enhances the preparation of undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a law school degree and entrance into the legal profession. The Program provides students with access to a variety of resources, activities, and programs to assist students for the law school admission process.  Furthermore, the Program offers guidance and practical information to maximize the student’s opportunity for success in the field of law.

The Program includes Road to Law School Saturday Academy by the Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO) which consists of a series of Saturday sessions where students will be provided further guidance, academic enrichment and career development activities designed to continue CLEO’s efforts to demystify law school and the legal profession.

Goals

The goals of the Charles H. Houston Pre-Law Program are:
  • To provide and facilitate opportunities for students to engage in programs that will enhance their abilities and chances of successful admission and completion of law school;
  • To provide an in-depth examination of the factors law school admissions staff consider when evaluating applicants;
  • To prepare students for the LSAT exam;
  • To inform students about the academic rigor, demands and expectations of a legal education;
  • To strengthen students logical and verbal reasoning skills, oral advocacy, persuasion and public speaking skills;
  • To connect students with the Council on Legal Education Opportunity (CLEO); and
  • To educate students about diverse careers in law.

Participation

Participation in the Charles H. Houston Pre-Law Program is open to all undergraduate and graduate students attending a community college, college or university in the state of North Carolina.
